Day 11 - Assisi & Orvieto

Monday June 13th

We left Montecatina to head for Rome! On the way we stopped in Assisi and Orvieto.

In Assisi we visited the Bassilica of St. Francis. We received a very good guided tour and learned a lot about this amazing place. Unfortunately, photos weren't allowed inside the church because of the chance of damage to the frescoes with the flash.

Our next stop was Orvieto. I had never heard of Orvieto but as it turns out, it was my favorite place of the trip! The town was another medieval city at the top of a mountain. This place is not very touristy and I just loved everything about it! Our tour director, Mirne, knows this guy, Carlo, who has a restaurant there serving some traditional Orvieto style fare. Carlo is the chef, his mom and cousin are the waitresses. That's it! This was by far the best meal of the trip!

There is a beautiful Basilica here simply called Duomo.

After our big meal Mirne offered an optional "Adventure" of a hike down the mountain instead of taking the train back down. Some of us were foolish enough to accept...

Our lives were in danger more than once... it was awesome!
